Real World Experience in Medical Writing by Annie Flatley

Real World Experience in Medical Writing by Annie Flatley

Today, I am posting about my experience with The HIR Group: I gained hands on experience with real-world Medical Writing Documents.

Looking back to when I first decided I wanted to go into medical writing, I did not understand what it actually entailed. I thought it was writing scientific articles for journals or websites. When I came across The HIR Group through UIC, I learned it was much more than just writing scientific articles. I was hesitant about taking the course for a while and wanted to try to get into the career myself. I applied to many different medical writing jobs with no luck. That’s when I decided to take the Medical Writing Course to not only gain insight into what medical writing is but to learn about the intricacies of the documents being used. This course not only helped me learn what medical writing is but gave me the real-world skills needed to succeed in the industry. Gaining knowledge about the different documents used in medical writing was only half of what the course offered. I received one-on-one time working on resumes, applications as well as skills needed for a successful interview. The small class size allowed for a more personal experience. This is not a course where you just finish it, and you are on your own. The HIR Group cares about what happens after the course is completed. After competition of the course, they offer job placement help and really want you to be able to succeed in medical writing. I came out of this course with not only a knowledge of the documents needed for medical writing but with a mentor as well.
